Nintendo Switch Repair in St Andrews. Joy-Con Drift & More Fixed
The Nintendo Switch is brilliant when it works. But Joy-Con drift, cracked screens, charging problems, and overheating can turn your favourite console into a source of frustration. If your character moves on its own, the screen has a crack running through it, or the console will not charge no matter which cable you use, you need a repair that actually fixes the problem rather than a temporary workaround. At Repair St Andrews, we repair Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED consoles at our workshop on 1 City Rd. We have been fixing portable gaming hardware since 2011, and the Switch is one of the consoles we see most often. Bring it in and we will sort it out.
Common Nintendo Switch Problems We Fix
Joy-Con Drift
The most common Switch fault by far. Your character walks on its own, the camera spins, or menu selections jump around without touching the stick. This is caused by wear and contamination inside the analogue stick module, and it affects virtually every Switch owner eventually. We replace the stick modules with improved components.
Battery Issues
Cracked or damaged screen. The Switch's touchscreen is exposed and vulnerable, especially for a console that gets carried in bags and played by younger users. We replace cracked LCD panels and digitisers, restoring both the display and touch functionality.
Screen Damage
Charging port failure. The USB-C port takes a lot of abuse, especially from children plugging and unplugging the cable. A loose, damaged, or non-functional charging port means the Switch will not charge and cannot connect to the dock. We replace charging ports with micro-soldering.
Charging Port
Will not dock or display on TV. If your Switch charges but will not output to the TV through the dock, the problem is usually the USB-C port (damaged video output pins), the dock itself, or a fault on the motherboard's video output circuit. We diagnose which component is at fault.
Rail Connection
Game card slot not reading. The Switch does not recognise inserted game cards, or repeatedly asks you to reinsert the card. The game card reader connector or the card slot pins may be bent, dirty, or damaged. We clean or replace the card reader assembly.
// OUR PROCESS
Our Switch Repair Process
We keep the process careful so your Switch is properly fixed without damaging its compact internals.
Console Assessment
We test your Switch thoroughly: Joy-Con calibration and input test, screen inspection (display quality and touch response), charging function with multiple cables, dock output test, game card reading, Wi-Fi connectivity, and battery health check. For Joy-Con drift, we use Nintendo's built-in stick calibration tool to confirm and measure the drift before and after repair.
Precision Repair
The Nintendo Switch is a compact device with tightly packed components. Joy-Con stick replacement involves opening the controller, disconnecting the ribbon cables, and swapping the analogue stick module. A fiddly job that requires patience and the right tools. Screen replacements require separating the digitiser from the frame. Charging port replacement is a micro-soldering job on the motherboard. We work carefully on every repair to avoid damaging the delicate internals.
Full Function Test
After the repair, we test everything: both Joy-Cons in attached and wireless modes, the touchscreen (every region of the display), charging from a cable and through the dock, TV output at 1080p, game card reading, audio from speakers and headphone jack, and Wi-Fi connection. We make sure your Switch works perfectly in every mode before handing it back.

Turnaround Time
Most Nintendo Switch repairs are completed within one to two working days. Joy-Con stick replacements typically take a couple of working days. We order the correct replacement module for your specific Joy-Con and fit it as soon as the part arrives. Screen replacements and charging port repairs typically take one to two days. Motherboard-level repairs may take two to four days depending on the complexity of the fault. We will give you a clear timeline when you bring the console in.
Pricing
Switch repair costs vary by the type of repair. Joy-Con stick replacements are among the most affordable repairs we offer. Screen replacements and charging port repairs cost a bit more, reflecting the parts and precision work involved. All repairs are significantly cheaper than replacing the console, and we provide a diagnosis and quote before any work starts. Call 01334 478866 and tell us what is wrong with your Switch. We will give you a price straight away.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you fix Joy-Con drift permanently, or will it come back?
We replace the analogue stick module with an improved version, not just clean the original. The replacement modules are more resistant to the dust and wear that caused the original drift. While no analogue stick lasts forever. They are mechanical components with a finite lifespan. Our replacements outlast Nintendo’s original parts. If drift returns within our warranty period, we will fix it again at no charge.
Do you repair the Switch Lite and Switch OLED?
Yes, we repair all three models. The Switch Lite has its controllers built into the unit, so stick replacement requires opening the console itself rather than just the Joy-Con. The Switch OLED has a larger, more expensive screen but is otherwise similar to the standard Switch internally. We have parts and experience for all three variants.
My Switch got wet. Can you save it?
Possibly, and the sooner you bring it in, the better. If your Switch has been exposed to liquid, power it off immediately. Do not try to charge it or turn it on, as this can cause short circuits that make the damage worse. Bring it to us and we will open it, dry and clean the internals, check for corrosion, and assess whether the motherboard and other components are salvageable.
Can you fix a Joy-Con that will not connect wirelessly?
Yes. If a Joy-Con connects when physically attached to the Switch but drops connection or will not pair wirelessly, the Bluetooth antenna inside the Joy-Con may be damaged or disconnected. We can also fix Joy-Cons with broken SL/SR buttons (the rail-mounted buttons used in horizontal mode), faulty rumble motors, and unresponsive face buttons.
Is it worth repairing a Nintendo Switch, or should I buy a new one?
For most faults, repair is excellent value. A Joy-Con stick replacement costs a fraction of a new Joy-Con pair, let alone a new console. Even a screen replacement is much cheaper than a new Switch. The only situation where replacement might make more sense is if the motherboard has sustained severe damage. But we will always give you an honest assessment before you commit to a repair.
Can you fix a Switch that won't output to TV?
Yes. If your Switch charges normally but shows nothing on the TV when docked, the fault is usually damaged video-output pins on the USB-C port, a problem with the dock itself, or a motherboard-level issue with the video output circuit. We test all three to pinpoint the cause. Bring in both the Switch and the dock so we can test the full chain.
