iPhone Battery Replacement in St Andrews. All-Day Power Restored

Your iPhone used to last all day. Now it is dead by lunchtime, or it shuts down at 30%, or the battery percentage jumps from 45% to 12% in the blink of an eye. You have tried closing background apps, turning down the brightness, enabling Low Power Mode. And none of it makes a real difference. The battery is worn out, and no amount of software tricks will fix a hardware problem.

At Repair St Andrews, we replace iPhone batteries every single day. It is one of the most common repairs we do, it takes about an hour, and you walk out with a phone that holds a charge like it did when it was new. We are at 1 City Rd, right beside the West Port, and we have been doing this since 2011.

Signs Your iPhone Battery Needs Replacing

Battery Drains Rapidly

A full charge barely gets you to the afternoon. You find yourself constantly hunting for a charger or carrying a power bank everywhere.

Unexpected Shutdowns

Your iPhone dies at 20% or 30% instead of lasting down to 1%. This happens because the battery can no longer deliver the voltage the processor demands under load.

Battery Health Below 80%

Go to Settings, then Battery, then Battery Health. If Maximum Capacity is below 80%, Apple considers the battery significantly degraded. Below 70% and you will notice serious performance issues.

Swollen Battery

If your screen is lifting away from the frame or there is a visible bulge on the back, the battery has started to swell. This is a safety concern and should be dealt with promptly. Do not try to charge a visibly swollen iPhone. Bring it to us.

Performance Throttling

Apple deliberately slows down iPhones with degraded batteries to prevent shutdowns. If your phone feels sluggish and laggy, a new battery can restore the original speed.

// OUR PROCESS

Our Battery Replacement Process

We keep the process simple so your phone is back in your hands the same day.

Battery Health Check

When you bring your iPhone in, we run a diagnostic that goes deeper than the built-in Battery Health screen. We check the cycle count (how many times the battery has been fully charged and discharged), the actual versus designed capacity in milliamp-hours, and whether the battery is reporting any error flags. This tells us definitively whether a new battery will solve your problem or if something else is going on.

Battery Swap

We open the iPhone, disconnect the old battery, and carefully remove it. The adhesive tabs Apple uses require patience and the right technique to avoid damaging anything underneath. The new battery is seated, connected, and the adhesive sealing around the screen is re-applied. We use quality replacement batteries that match the original capacity specification for your model, and we can also supply genuine Apple batteries if you prefer.

Calibration and Testing

With the new battery installed, we power up the phone and run a full check: charging works correctly, the battery percentage reads accurately, the phone boots cleanly, and all functions (screen, cameras, speakers, Face ID or Touch ID) are unaffected by the repair. We also recalibrate the battery gauge so the percentage readings are accurate from day one.

Turnaround Time

An iPhone battery replacement typically takes about an hour. Most customers drop the phone off and come back. Plenty of time for a coffee on Market Street or a walk along the pier. We carry batteries for all current and recent iPhone models in stock, so there is rarely any waiting for parts.

Walk-ins welcome: Monday to Friday 09:30 to 17:30, Saturday 10:00 to 17:00. Or call ahead on 01334 478866 to check availability for your model.

If your iPhone also has a cracked display, check our iPhone screen repair service. We can replace both in a single visit.

iPhone Battery Replacement Pricing

Battery prices depend on the iPhone model. The iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) and iPhone X through 12 range are the most affordable. The latest models (iPhone 13, 14, 15, 16 series) are slightly higher because the batteries are larger and more expensive to source. We can also fit genuine Apple batteries. Ask us for a quote.

Every quote includes the battery, the labour, and the testing. We always confirm the price before we start. No hidden charges, no surprises.

Call 01334 478866 or drop in to 1 City Rd for a quote on your specific model.

We also handle charging port repairs and screen replacements if your phone needs more than a battery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a new iPhone battery last?

A quality replacement battery will last just as long as the original did when the phone was new. In practical terms, that means you should get two to three years of good service from a new battery, depending on your usage. Heavy users who charge their phone twice a day will wear the battery out faster than light users. To maximise longevity, avoid letting the battery drop to 0% regularly, avoid extreme heat, and use the charger that came with your phone or a reputable third-party one.

Will replacing the battery delete my data?

No. A battery replacement is a purely hardware swap. Your photos, messages, apps, contacts, and settings remain completely untouched. We do not need to access your software or reset anything. The phone powers back on exactly as it was before, just with a battery that actually works.

I see a 'Service' message in Battery Health after replacement. Is that normal?

On some newer iPhone models (iPhone 11 onwards), Apple displays an “Important Battery Message” or “Unknown Part” notification after a third-party battery replacement. This is Apple’s way of flagging that the battery was not installed by an Apple Authorised Service Provider. It does not affect the phone’s performance, battery life, or safety in any way. The battery works identically. The message is purely informational.

My battery is swollen. Is it dangerous?

A swollen battery should be taken seriously, but there is no need to panic. Stop using and charging the phone, and bring it to us as soon as you can. Do not try to puncture, squeeze, or remove the battery yourself. We have the tools and experience to safely remove swollen batteries. The most common cause is age and repeated charge cycles. It is a natural end-of-life behaviour for lithium-ion cells, and we see several per month. If your screen has been pushed up by the swelling, we may also need to check for logic board damage.

How do I check my iPhone battery health?

Open Settings, tap Battery, then tap Battery Health and Charging. You will see your Maximum Capacity. This is the percentage of original capacity remaining. If it is below 80%, Apple considers the battery significantly degraded, and you will likely notice reduced performance and shorter battery life. If your phone is on iOS 16 or later, you may also see a cycle count, which tells you how many full charge-discharge cycles the battery has been through. A typical iPhone battery is designed for around 500 cycles before noticeable degradation.

Can you replace the battery while I wait?

Yes. An iPhone battery replacement takes about an hour. Most customers drop the phone off and come back to collect it. Plenty of time for a walk around town. We carry batteries in stock for all current and recent iPhone models, so there is no waiting for parts. Walk-ins are welcome during our opening hours. No appointment needed, though you can always call ahead on 01334 478866 to check.

Does battery replacement affect Face ID or Touch ID?

No. The battery is a separate component that sits below the screen and does not connect to the Face ID or Touch ID hardware. We disconnect the battery carefully, remove it, and fit the replacement without touching the biometric components. Your Face ID or Touch ID will work exactly as before after the repair.
