Laptop Screen Repair in St Andrews. Dell, HP, Lenovo & More
A broken laptop screen does not just look bad. It makes your entire machine unusable. Whether you have cracked the display in a fall, the backlight has died and the screen is impossibly dim, or horizontal lines and flickering have made it impossible to read anything, you need it fixed. Buying a new laptop because of a damaged screen is a waste of money when the rest of the machine works perfectly. At Repair St Andrews, we have been replacing laptop screens since 2011, and we repair displays for every major brand. Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Samsung, and more. Bring it to 1 City Rd and we will get you a clear, sharp display again.
Common Laptop Screen Problems We Fix
Cracked or Shattered Displays
The most common laptop screen fault we see. A drop, an impact, or even closing the lid on a pen or earphone cable can crack the LCD panel, causing black ink-blot patterns, spider-web fractures, or a completely unreadable display.
Dead Display
Dead or stuck pixels. Individual pixels that are permanently black, white, or a single colour. A few dead pixels can be tolerable, but clusters or lines of dead pixels indicate panel failure and warrant replacement.
Flickering or Strobing Screen
If your laptop screen flickers, flashes, or rapidly alternates between dim and bright, the fault is usually a failing backlight inverter, a loose display cable, or a degraded LCD panel. We diagnose which component is at fault.
Dim Display or No Backlight
If you can faintly see the image on screen when you shine a torch at it, the backlight has failed. On older laptops this is often the inverter board; on newer LED-backlit screens, it is typically the panel itself or the power circuit on the motherboard.
Lines Across the Display
Horizontal or vertical coloured lines running across the screen are usually caused by a failing LCD panel, though a loose or damaged display ribbon cable can also cause this symptom.
// OUR PROCESS
Our Screen Repair Process
We keep the process simple so your device is back in your hands quickly.
Identify the Correct Panel
Every laptop model uses a specific screen panel with particular dimensions, resolution, connector type, and mounting configuration. We identify the exact panel your laptop needs, checking the model number, screen size (from 11.6 inches to 17.3 inches), resolution, connector pin count, and whether it uses a glossy or matte finish.
Screen Replacement
We remove the bezel or housing, disconnect the old display cable, and carefully extract the damaged panel. The new screen is mounted, connected, and secured in the housing. We take particular care with thin-bezel modern designs where the screen sits very close to the edge of the lid.
Display Testing
With the new screen fitted, we test at multiple brightness levels, check for dead pixels against white, black, red, green, and blue test screens, verify the display cable connection is secure, and confirm the hinges and lid close properly. We also check that the webcam and any other lid-mounted components still function correctly.

Turnaround Time
Most laptop screen repairs are completed within one to two working days. Popular models from Dell, HP, and Lenovo often use standardised panels that we can source quickly. Less common models. Gaming laptops with high-refresh displays, ultrabooks with unusual panel sizes, or older machines with discontinued screens. May take three to five days if a specific panel needs to be ordered. We will confirm the timeline before starting work.
Pricing
Laptop screen replacement costs depend on the screen size, resolution, and whether the panel uses a standard or proprietary design. Standard 15.6-inch HD screens are the most affordable to replace. Higher-resolution panels (Full HD, QHD, 4K), touchscreen displays, and OLED screens cost more. We provide a quote for your specific laptop model before any work begins. Call 01334 478866 with your laptop model and we will give you a price immediately.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which laptop brands do you repair screens for?
We repair screens for every laptop brand. This includes Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Samsung, MSI, Razer, Huawei, Microsoft Surface, and any other Windows or Chrome OS laptop. For MacBook screens, we have a dedicated MacBook screen repair service. If you are unsure whether we can fix your particular model, call us. The answer is almost certainly yes.
Can you replace a touchscreen display?
Yes. Touchscreen laptop displays are more complex because they integrate a digitiser layer on top of the LCD panel. We replace touchscreen assemblies as a complete unit to ensure the touch function works correctly after repair. Touchscreen replacements do cost more than standard display panels, and we will quote you the exact price for your model.
My laptop screen works fine on an external monitor. Does the screen definitely need replacing?
If the laptop displays correctly on an external monitor but the built-in screen is faulty, the issue is almost certainly with the screen panel, the display cable, or the backlight. Not the graphics card. This is actually good news, as it means the laptop itself is fine and a screen replacement will fix the problem completely.
Is it worth replacing the screen on an older laptop?
Usually, yes. If your laptop is otherwise functional. The processor, RAM, and storage are adequate for your needs. Replacing a broken screen is far cheaper than buying a new machine. A five-year-old laptop with an SSD and a new screen can still be a perfectly capable daily-use computer. We will give you an honest assessment based on your specific laptop.
Can you upgrade my laptop screen to a higher resolution?
In some cases, yes. Certain laptop models support both HD and Full HD panels with the same physical dimensions and connector. If an upgrade is possible for your model, we will let you know. However, this is not possible on all laptops. The display cable and motherboard must support the higher resolution panel.
Will the replacement screen match my laptop's resolution?
Absolutely. We source the exact panel specification for your laptop model. Same resolution, same physical size, same connector type. If your laptop came with a 1920×1080 Full HD display, that is what you get as a replacement. We also match the panel finish (glossy or matte) to your original screen unless you request otherwise.
Can you fix a laptop with a broken hinge as well as the screen?
Yes. Broken hinges and damaged screens often go hand in hand. A fall that cracks the display frequently damages the hinge mechanism too. We can replace both the screen panel and the hinge assembly in the same repair. If the hinge housing in the lid is also cracked, we will let you know and quote for that as well. It is far more cost-effective to fix everything in one visit.
We also offer MacBook screen repair, laptop battery replacement, and laptop keyboard repair. See all our computer repair services in St Andrews.
