It shipped with 4GB DDR3 RAM upgradeable to 8GB and a 500GB mechanical hard drive. The NVIDIA 9600M GT is known for developing thermal solder joint failures over time, causing graphical artefacts, screen corruption, and kernel panics - particularly in the 17-inch chassis where heat dissipation demands are high. The spinning hard drive is extremely failure-prone at this age, making data backup and SSD replacement essential services. The large 95Wh battery will have long since lost meaningful capacity. An ExpressCard/34 slot provided expansion options, and the non-removable battery design (Apple's first in a laptop) was controversial at launch.
