// PHONE BATTERY REPLACEMENT
Phone Battery Replacement in St Andrews. All-Day Battery Life Again
Your phone is supposed to make your life easier, not harder. Instead, you are constantly checking the battery percentage, carrying a power bank everywhere, and planning your day around charging opportunities. You know the battery is the problem. It used to last from morning to night, and now it barely makes it past lunch. A new battery costs a fraction of a new phone and takes less than an hour to fit.
At Repair St Andrews, we replace batteries in phones of every brand. IPhone, Samsung, Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus, Motorola, Xiaomi, and more. We have been doing it since 2011 at our workshop on 1 City Rd, beside the West Port, and we carry batteries for the most common models in stock so there is no waiting around.
Signs Your Phone Battery Needs Replacing
Rapid Battery Drain
You fully charge the phone in the morning and it is below 30% by early afternoon, despite normal use. No amount of brightness reduction or app-closing makes a meaningful difference.
Sudden Shutdowns
The phone dies at 15%, 20%, or even 30% instead of running all the way down. The battery can no longer deliver enough voltage under load, so the phone cuts power to protect its circuits.
Slow Performance
Both Apple and Android manufacturers throttle processor speed when the battery is degraded, to prevent unexpected shutdowns. If your phone has become noticeably sluggish, a new battery can restore the original speed.
Battery Swelling
A visible bulge on the back of the phone or the screen lifting away from the frame. This means the battery's internal chemistry has become unstable and it is expanding. Stop using and charging the phone and bring it to us promptly.
Excessive Heat
Some warmth is normal, but if the phone gets uncomfortably hot while charging, the battery is likely degraded and drawing current inefficiently.
// OUR PROCESS
Our Battery Replacement Process
We keep the process simple so your phone is back in your hands the same day.
Battery Health Assessment
We check the actual state of your battery using diagnostic tools that measure capacity, cycle count, and voltage behaviour. On iPhones, this goes deeper than the built-in Battery Health screen. On Android phones, we use manufacturer and third-party diagnostics to assess the battery's true condition. We also check for other issues that can cause battery drain. A rogue app consuming power in the background, a faulty charging circuit, or a software issue. Because there is no point replacing a perfectly good battery if the problem is something else.
Battery Swap
The replacement process varies by brand. iPhones use adhesive tabs to secure the battery, which requires careful technique to remove. Samsung phones require heating and separating the back glass first, since Samsung seals everything with adhesive. Google Pixels are similar to Samsung in construction. Huawei, OnePlus, and Motorola each have their own quirks. We know the disassembly procedure for every popular model and have the right tools for each. The new battery is installed, connected, and the phone is sealed back up with fresh adhesive.
Calibration and Testing
With the new battery in place, we power up the phone, verify it charges correctly, check that the battery percentage reads accurately, and run a quick functionality test to ensure nothing was disturbed during the repair. We also set the battery gauge to calibrate properly, so you get accurate percentage readings from the start.

Turnaround Time
Most phone battery replacements take around an hour. iPhones are typically at the quicker end because their internal design makes battery access relatively straightforward. Samsung and other Android phones that require back glass removal tend to take slightly longer due to the adhesive-heavy construction. Walk-ins are welcome and most replacements are completed the same day.
We are open Monday to Friday 09:30 to 17:30 and Saturday 10:00 to 17:00. Call 01334 478866 to check stock for your specific phone model.
Battery Replacement Pricing
The cost depends on your phone brand and model. iPhone batteries are generally the most affordable because they are widely available and standardised. Samsung batteries vary. Budget A series phones are inexpensive, while S Ultra models cost more. Google Pixel, Huawei, OnePlus, and other brands fall somewhere in between depending on the specific model.
Every quote includes the battery, the labour, and the post-repair testing. We confirm the price before starting work. No hidden extras.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will a replacement battery last?
A quality replacement battery will perform just as well as the original did when the phone was new. In practical terms, expect two to three years of good service depending on your usage pattern. To maximise battery lifespan, avoid regularly draining to 0%, avoid extreme temperatures (leaving it on a car dashboard in summer or outside in a Scottish winter), and use a reputable charger. Fast charging is fine for modern batteries and will not significantly reduce lifespan, despite what you may have read online.
Will I lose my data during a battery replacement?
No. Battery replacement is a purely hardware procedure. Your photos, apps, messages, contacts, and settings are stored on the phone’s internal storage, which is completely unaffected by a battery swap. There is no need to back up before the repair, though keeping regular backups is always sensible general practice.
My phone is only a year old. Why does the battery need replacing already?
A year is unusually fast for battery degradation, but it happens. The most common causes are heavy usage (gaming, video streaming, constant GPS use), frequent fast charging, exposure to heat, or occasionally a manufacturing defect in the battery itself. Some phones are also harder on batteries than others. Flagship phones with power-hungry processors and large bright screens can cycle through a battery faster than mid-range phones with more efficient chips. Whatever the cause, a new battery at the one-year mark is still far cheaper than a new phone.
Do you replace batteries in very old phones?
We do, where parts are still available. We can source batteries for most phones going back five or six years. Older than that and parts become increasingly difficult to find reliably. If you have an older phone you are attached to, bring it in and we will check whether we can get a battery for it. Sometimes the phone is old enough that the battery replacement costs more than the phone is worth. We will tell you honestly if that is the case so you can make an informed decision.
Can you replace the battery in a phone with a non-removable battery?
Yes. The term “non-removable battery” in phone specifications just means you are not intended to swap it yourself without tools. It does not mean it is permanently sealed in. Every phone’s battery can be replaced with the right tools and technique. We replace batteries in glued, sealed phones every day. It is our bread and butter.
Can I check my battery health before bringing it in?
On an iPhone, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and Charging. It shows your Maximum Capacity and cycle count. On most Android phones, dial *#*#4636#*#* to access a hidden battery info screen, or download AccuBattery from the Play Store for detailed battery health data. If your Maximum Capacity is below 80% (iPhone) or your battery health shows significant wear (Android), a replacement will make a noticeable difference.
Do you use genuine batteries?
We use high-quality replacement batteries that match the original capacity specification for your phone model. For iPhones, we can also supply genuine Apple batteries if you prefer. Just ask. For Samsung and other Android brands, we source batteries from reputable suppliers that meet or exceed original specifications. Every battery we fit comes with a warranty.
Is it safe to keep using a phone with a swollen battery?
No. A swollen battery is a safety concern. The swelling means the battery’s internal chemistry has become unstable, and while the risk of fire or rupture is low, it is not zero. Stop charging the phone, avoid pressing on the swollen area, and bring it to us as soon as you can. Do not try to puncture or remove the battery yourself. We safely remove and dispose of swollen batteries every week. It is a routine job for us.
